The Marvels - Super Hero / Action / 105 mins (Hotstar)
If you are even reading this review, then i salute you because you are like me, still a Marvel (the Cinematic Kevin Fiege version) fanboy. Marvel has been struggling really to hold on to the audience attention after end of the Avengers - Only a few "popular" characters survive - enough to keep the fans' attention and we just cling on, telling ourselves each time, this is the last one, yet.
After 2021 - We have seen Marvel play through a 2020's corporate playbook of Diversity and Inclusion - Introducing characters of different colour, religion, ethnicity and orientation. They get an A+ on the commitment. But now it is evident where they are clearly doing it for the sake of it , perhaps hell bent of showing red on their balance sheets ( to claim a deliberate loss to offset the gargantuan profits they hitherto made, who knows!?).
I am hardly surprised anyone actually saw this movie. Its not just the acting that is bad, i am sure Samuel Jackson is probably making good money , while going WTF. Brie Larson is OK, but she is too darn girly (thanks to the milieu and influence of Ms Marvel). Iman Vellani does a good job of being the irritatingly charming 15 yr old Ms Marvel - but the Oh my Gods grate after a while.
The movie goes on a plot written by maybe a 12 year old - damn, there is a sequence where the characters have to "sing and dance" because they are in a world where the speech is actually..."singing" - then of course the character Goose (the famous cat which gives Fury his eye patch) being of so vital important is just a vomiting mess ...i ..cant!...
if you still want to keep to the "what happened" - read the synopsis on IMDB so you know the story trail until the...last one..:-)
