The Railway Men - Netflix - 4 episode Limited series
A very tightly edited , razor sharp series based on events that occurred during the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy .
The terrific performances by Kay Kay Menon( ever dependable ) , Divyendu Sharma ( slick - his scenes with Kay Kay are super ) , Madhavan ( limited scenes) , Sunny Hinduja and Babil khan ( the late Irrfan’s son ) keep you hooked . Babil in fact is absolutely brilliant His diction , body language is so apt - almost like a seasoned actor !. Some of his tiny monologues remind you so much of his illustrious father . The initial scenes and a few snatches are not easy to the eye with obvious depictions of the impact of the gas leak , but largely it is safe to watch .
It does not become a critique on why / how / what the government did or did not do. So in that sense it plays a little safe , a token plot tip to the anti sikh violence of that time as well . Given the political climate - I liked that it does not does not dwell on too many peripheral stories ( romance / sentiment / politics etc) and sticks to the events over a few hours .
Definitely worth a watch- while I go and find some other work of Babil khan !
