Jaane Jaan - Hindi - 140 mins - Netflix
The official adaptation of a global bestselling book “ The Devotion of Suspect X” , which was definitely an inspiration to “Drishyam” … and there in lies the problem . The movie is not something you haven’t seen , given the slew of thrillers which followed ( and its own many versions and languages ) .
I wanted to watch because of the actors and the pedigree of the director Sujoy Ghosh ( Kahaani , Badla ) - who is able to generally bring his own style to official adaptations . Kareena Kapoor Khan is an under utilised actor , thanks to her more popular mainstream roles - she is damn good ( devoid of having to look glam ) . Jaideep Ahlawat as her mysterious neighbour is so so good . His body language , eyes and his tone and tenor are an acting master class . The one pivotal scene at the end - shows so many emotions . Vijay Varma is smart , smooth talking and slick 🙂 , bringing a little bit of humour to an otherwise glum setting .
it is all about the scenes between these three characters and they make it engaging , what is otherwise a very “template “ thriller . It could have been so much more with some better writing and twists thrown in . Can watch once for the actors and the beauty of Kalimpong ( whatever little we experience) on screen .
