Starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon ( enjoying a purple patch ) - Crew is a heist movie with a simple plot. Three women are cabin crew on a "Kingfisher" type airline , who strike gold dust and what follows.
The movie , interestingly has a shortish run time, which is great - perhaps the director Rajesh Krishnan (who made the decent "Lootcase" ) wanted to stick with the heist(s) , but the writing / screenplay does not hold - makes the periphery characters very shallow. There are cameos by Kapil Sharma (who is quite good as Tabu's husband) and Diljit Dosanjh (as a customs officer).
With Ekta Kapoor being one of the producers - i was expecting a movie with plenty of sexual innuendos (in the garb of feminism, as has often been her wont) . Fortunately that is not the case and in general the movie is quite safe to watch. Plenty of in your face product placements .
Kareena as the free spirited of the three - The expressive face, the swagger, she is the performer!. Kriti is surprisingly good - noteworthy is the air sickness scene. Tabu as the senior most with anxiety issues is a little underwhelming - mostly reduced to screaming. The censorship of the swearing definitely dilutes the impact of her performance. That said - she shows he class in few sequences - her first scene with Kapil Sharma and when she is providing dating advice to Kriti.
A majority of the budget would definitely have gone into the costume department - Tabu look a little ill at ease, while the other two ladies ace their looks.
Without too much drama, limited emotional connect and not enough funny situations, the movie aims to soar on the strength of the leading ladies, who do a darn good job keeping it steady, albeit at much lower altitude. Definitely a lost opportunity. Watch it only if you are a fan of the actors and for the excellent chemistry between them.
